"Thinking Out Loud" is an
acoustic duo consisting of Miff Laracy (guitar and vocals) and Jerry Rig
(upright bass and vocals). The duo explores a variety of music in the acoustic
genre including their own original music. These guys have been around a long
time, and it shows. Each has played in a variety of musical ventures, and have
ended up together in “Thinking Out Loud”, a listenable, atypical, and appealing
combination of material you wouldn't normally expect in acoustic format. At
times they sound like a full band, attributable to Jerry's percussive upright
bass technique. Miff's lead guitar abilities, which shine through in a number of tunes, cross some
lines you wouldn’t normally expect from an acoustic act. All in all, the duo has
a sound that is different, refreshing, and intriguing. The selection of material they choose ranges from modern
to classic, with their own unique twist to many, if not most, of the tunes. From
Dylan to Foo Fighters, Beatles to Echo and the Bunnymen, Buddy Holly to Delbert
McClinton, to Presley, to Rig, to Laracy, it all works. They pull it off with
their own flair and finesse. Their vocal harmony is the icing on the cake, and
each tune has its own special flavor.
Miff and Jerry met in a recent
collaboration with a reformation of a local, all original, honky tonk band
called “The West Coast Pinups”, where they played together for over two years.
The Pinups played a variety of venues in town, opening for national acts such
as “The Mavericks” and “Blake Shelton”.
This collaboration then extended into the pair hosting Sunday jam nights
at Java Joe’s Pub, where they played many “off the cuff” tunes and supported a
variety of sit-ins for about a year. Jerry fronts his own original music rock
band, called “butterFace”, who have three CDs out, and continue to play around
town. Miff Laracy is a long time sideman for local celebrity “Jose Sinatra”
with “The Troy Dante Inferno”. Both guys have played in a string of different
bands over the years, including Buddy Blue, Emerald River, Cobain Morrison,
Andrea Wells and Crossfire, and the list goes on and on.
Treat yourself to an entertaining and musical performance
of “Thinking Out Loud”. Your ears won’t ring, but your auditory palette will be
well satisfied, and they will certainly leave you with something to think
about.
